THE CHALLENGE
Students often struggle to navigate the complex pathways into healthcare careers. Tractus set out to simplify that journey by offering personalized career guidance, curated job listings, and clear educational options in one centralized platform. Beyond supporting aspiring healthcare professionals, we also aimed to help students who didn’t continue in their MD programs identify their strengths and discover alternative healthcare roles—ensuring they can still find the path that aligns with their skills and long-term goals.
THE SOLUTION
I designed an interactive career and skills interface that breaks down healthcare pathways into easy-to-understand options. By mapping required skills, degrees, and competencies to real job postings, the tool guides students toward roles that genuinely match their backgrounds and aspirations.
THE PROCESS
Empathize — Research & User Understanding
Students exploring healthcare careers often feel overwhelmed by unclear requirements, scattered resources, and an abundance of pathways that lack personalization. Through internal stakeholder discussions and a review of student feedback, we identified a common pain point:
Students need a clearer understanding of how their skills, interests, and education connect to viable healthcare careers.
Define — Problem Statements & Requirements
Problem Statement:
Students struggle to identify personalized, attainable healthcare career paths—and lack a unified place to explore roles, required skills, compatible degrees, and relevant job opportunities.
Goal Statement:
Our Tractus Pathways App helps users discover their unique route into the medical field through an interactive, skills-based exploration system. By connecting students to personalized career pathways, educational requirements, and real job opportunities aligned with their strengths, the platform supports a more informed and diverse incoming healthcare workforce.
To measure effectiveness, we will track user outcomes through follow-up surveys that assess whether the platform helped them find clarity in their career direction or successfully land a role in the medical field.

Ideate — Content Strategy, IA & Solution Exploration
I explored solutions that could make healthcare career discovery intuitive, actionable, and student-centered:
-
An interactive career and skills interface that visualizes pathways based on interests, competencies, and education level.
-
A career interest quiz feeding personalized role recommendations.
-
Skill and degree filters to help students understand what qualifications they have—and what they may need.
-
Job listing cards with key info at a glance, connected to the selected role or skill set.
-
Pathway-to-degree suggestions, including affiliated schools and programs.
-
Favoriting and progress tracking to help students build a plan over time.
These ideas were sketched and mapped out through low-fidelity wireframes.
Prototype — Wireframes, Flows & High-Fidelity UI
-
Prioritized WCAG/ADA accessibility, improving contrast, spacing, form usability, and mobile layouts.
-
Simplified critical flows (program exploration → comparison → application) to reduce friction.
